Work was my first solo show. I had been a member of Kingston Art Group (KAG) since 2001 and in 2011, working with others in the group, were successfully awarded some ACE grant funding to move locations, and create a gallery on Humber Street in Hull, which was being redeveloped after the relocation of the Fruit Market. The function of the gallery was to show the work of group members, and we ran monthly shows from 2011-2019.
Work was a representation of my current studio practice, including painting, life/figure drawing and an experimental (for me) short film about a journey to and from work. During the show I brought my studio downstairs and painted a large cloud to reveal my process, as I felt painting clouds were analogous to intuitive mark making. In the run up to the show I painted a whole series of imagined clouds as studies, some selected works I also showed.
