I paint and draw familiar things either from life or from my visual memory; objects of interest, places, buildings or people.
My style is characterised by the need to make fast and confident marks/brush-strokes coupled with a strong sense of colour and form. It often amazes me that intuitive decisions can reveal the essence of something or someone in such a short period of time. Successful work captures how I am seeing as much as what the thing looks like, producing results that are fresh, clean and as if I have just stepped away from the canvas.
Whether painting something figurative or abstract, what I strive for is something that looks real rather than just representation.
All work featured on this site is available for sale, or as high quality giclée prints. Please contact me for further details.
I have been a member of Kingston Art Group, a collective which provides artist studios in central Hull since 2001.
